Rick Cutler has been a freelance musician in NYC his entire life. From 2005 onward, he’s released 5 CDs of mostly original compositions. The 6th, coming out March 24, is called The Unfolding. It combines influences of jazz, classical, folk, new age & world music. Mark Soskin, former pianist for Sonny Rollins & acclaimed drummer Billy Mintz appear on the aIbum. He has practiced Buddhism for 37 years, and it plays a part in his life & creative process.
Rick studied with the late jazz great Chick Corea and composed music for TV. Rick co-composed the Emmy-nominated theme for Dateline NBC as well all the music for The Gregory Hines Show, a sitcom that aired on CBS in the late ‘90s.
In his formative years, Rick started to play drums at the age of 5 1/2 & was inspired by seeing a band perform at half time in a football game & the drums struck him as something he’d like to pursue. His favorite artists & composers range from Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Erik Satie & Stravinsky to jazz artists such as Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter & Herbie Hancock & played a significant role in his own music.
His music is available on iTunes, Amazon and other digital outlets. Upcoming projects include a digital album of electronic music, an album of children’s music accompanying poetry and a documentary about the life of writer Elmore Leonard.
